3 Monday Musings of a Mantic #8: Slow Growth

Like a giant monster slug slowly inching its way forward my interest in 40k has began to move.  Slow and steady is the name of the game here as I wait for my glorious return to my beloved hobby.  After being away for not only two complete editions, 6th & 7th, but two years of not even touching a model, I am pumped to get back into the fray.  I owe it all to 8th edition as I am really enjoying where GW is taking 40k.  Sure some of it is lacking and other could be nipple twisted into providing more enjoyment but dam well most of it fixed my gripes with the hobby.

I have pulled out all and I do mean all of my 40k models from storage.  Rummaging through my models I quickly settled back into working on two very distinct projects.  The first being a Fallen Dark Angels force. Specifically they have fallen to the almighty Father of Decay. Modelling this force in the eyes of Nurgle is going to be treat. Mutations and rust is what I am going after.  Most of this force has been directly salvaged from the Dark Vengeance starter box and a left over box of plague bearers.  I plan on expanded this army substantially with my very first CSM army as it too was dedicated to Papa Nurgle.  To be honest I never was satisfied with the paint scheme I used back then. This army will enable me to play them as both Dark Angels or as Chaos Space Marines.

Tucked away in the upper left of this photo one can find several models all nicely painted up from my Khorne Space Puppies army "The Ravenous".  I have actually been devoting the bulk of my hobby time to these models.  I have been focusing my efforts on painting up a squad of Raptors/SkyClaws, a squad of Possessed/Wulfen and a large squad of Khorne Bezerkers/Blood Claws.  Once again the theme of having duel purposed armies is seen here again and why not as I have spent more then enough on these two armies.  The exciting part is that both my Nurgle and Khorne forces as distinct beast that play very differently even when used as Chaos Space Marines.  This will give me the added benefit of mixing the two at times so that I can cherry pick the best of both.

I have also been leaving a rotting ooze over several army list.  Here is my first Space Wolves list for 8th edition.  It is featured at 2000pts as i wanted to see what I would be playing with at what should be the local tournament level.

087 = Razorback: Twin Heavy Bolter

This list features 52 infantry models and 4 vehicles with two of them being a walker.  The Wolf Priest will ride in the back of one of the Razorbacks with the Wulfen squad.  From here both their auras can be taken advantage of once they dismount from the Razorback which will be when I'm in charging range.  I have the option to add the Venerable Dreadnoughts and the second Razorback with the advancing units as well; essentially overloading the enemy with a variety of threats.  Alternatively I can leave either of them with the Long Fangs in the backfield to expand their gunline.  The Grey Hunters are my flex squad as they can be used in either the backfield or join in the spearhead assault.  Looming in low orbit is my Wolf Lord and his Sky Claws who will look to find a weak point which t o exploit.  Each of the units has the ability to take on a variety of targets thanks to Pack Leaders toting powerfists, chainfists or thunderhammers.  I also wanted to take advantage of the armies ability to field invulnerable saves which look to be harder to field in other armies.  I have four 3++, two 4++ sprinkled throughout the infantry squads with the Long Fangs being the only one without one.  The army lacks at long range anti tank but once the Vindicator gets into range it can help fill that void. Thoughts???

  2. @ The Horned God - I can take some close ups for you but the real question is can you handle the nurgle that is contained within each of them? Seriously though I will schedule a post in the near future that will provide some close ups and insight into these models.
